2022 Bonnies Somewhat Traditional Gansey Socks - 1st Knit of the Year
Start Date: January 1, 2022
Finish Date: January 10, 2022
Day one of the new year. The whether is cold, the wind is blowing and there are several inches of snow and still snowing. This is the perfect day to cozy up in front of the fire and start a new knit. I am new to sock knitting, haven taken my first sock class at my favorite local yarn shop, Three Loves Yarn, a couple months ago. So far I have only knit one sock at a time and for this project I have decided to start knitting two at a time going forward.
The pattern I am using is called Traditional Gansey Socks. I added the "somewhat" to the title because the number of stitches I require for my sock size is less than the number of stitches in the pattern, so I slightly modified the pattern.
These turned out to be the perfect boot socks!
The supplies I am using are:
- Filatura Di Crosa, Zarina Chine' Extra Fine 100% Merino Wool Superwash, made in Italy, Color #824
- Cascade Yarns Heritage 75% Superwash Merino Wool / 25% Nylon, Color #5618
- ChiaoGoo US 2 (2.75mm) 40" circular needle
- The Filatura Di Crosa yarn was a travel purchase from a shop in Astoria WA. that has been in my stash for a few years. I decided this was the perfect project for it.
- Once I got the hang of knitting two at a time it made a world of difference to me. I find myself knitting in a much calmer, relaxed state. I believe that is due to the knowledge that the pair will be done at the same time, instead of stressing about making the second sock.
- I need to work on my cuffs. Still not coming out as full and fluffy as I would like. Maybe hold 2 strands at at time?
